Cedar Roof Shingles

If you’re considering putting a new roof on or changing your existing one, then one of your considerations should be cedar roof shingles.

There are a number of advantages to using this type of roof material. Number one is that it is very distinctive and looks really good. Cedar shingles will complement many different architectural designs. They have a clear rustic look that is appealing to many people.

Besides the looks though there are several other advantages to using cedar shingles. This shingle on your roof will last for a long time because it is especially noted for its durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions throughout the year. There is an abundance of cedar trees in many regions so it is a natural and traditional choice in many parts of the country. This type of shingle also has the advantage over such other roofing materials that are made from petroleum products. This makes it more environmentally friendly to use.

Lots of homes experience hazards like hail, heavy wind storms, UV damage and insects. Cedar will naturally resist these types of damages to homes. If one of your concerns is great insulation then this type of shingle would be the way to go. It makes great insulation for home to keep your home warmer in winter months and cooler for those hot, summer days. Many other roofing materials don’t have the lifespan of these roofs. These are actually known for lasting 30, or even 40 years.

If you are thinking about selling your home now or maybe even later, cedar shingles add to the resale value of any home. It is a great selling point with prospective home purchasers and will help you increase the amount you sell the home for.

As with any notable advantages though, there are some drawbacks to consider with cedar roof shingles. For one thing, they are a little more expensive to install than your ordinary run-of-the-mill roofing materials.

This expense is usually a welcome advantage due to the many benefits and the known durability of the product. You want to be sure you use a professional to install your roof properly. There will be less risk of any damage if it is nailed and installed properly and they won’t be as likely to split or shrink, leaving replacement at a minimum.

Make sure you choose cedar roof shingles that have been treated by the manufacturer with fire-resistant chemicals. This provides more safety to your home and family than untreated wood shingles.

What Warranty Can I Expect on My New Roof in Ann Arbor

As a roofing contractor I often am asked what the warranty is on the roofing jobs we do. That’s a great question and one you should ask any roofer you are considering hiring to work on your home.

Well, there are two critical components to a roofing warranty. One is the manufacturer’s warranty. The second is the roofing contractor’s warranty. Not to be confused, but many times that’s exactly what happens. People understand that they’re getting maybe a 30 year roofing product from the manufacturer and somehow associate that that’s a 30 year service commitment, a warranty commitment. And it’s not. That’s not true at all. We have to break those into again two components. Number one, manufacturer’s side of the deal, roofing contractor’s side of the deal.

The manufacturer will warranty the shingles for wear. So wear is like a tire might wear. Loss of shingle granulization, possible early failure. Those are the things they’re going to warranty their shingles for and it may be a prorated warranty. Probably is. Might have a five year non-prorated period and then for the balance of it a prorated period. Something to investigate and look into. Different manufacturers have different warranties.

Maybe the biggest one though is the roofing contractors warranty because that’s where the rubber hits the road. A properly installed roof has to be warrantied by the roofing contractor.

Now, how do we know that he’s going to stand behind his commitments? Well, find out how long he or she has been in business. Some people are offering large warranties, for over a long period of time, and have not been in business that long. Or have changed ownership. Maybe they have some challenges inside their organization. Very challenging for the homeowner to understand that.

So we have to look around. Call wholesalers. Check with the manufacturer, they have certified contractors that they recommend. Check with your referrals. Maybe visit the contractor, go to his showroom and meet the people. The people you trust, the people who have been in business a long time, the people who care about you, they’re going to be the ones who stand behind their warranty. So the two warranties come together to create the umbrella that protects you and your family with the proper roof job.

Is Yoli a Scam

Before I’ve done my researching on Yoli all I was thinking of was what kind of name is this? After all the researches that i’ve done all I can answer is they seem to have done their homework on each aspect of their company besides their name. MLM startups are naturally risky, but in Yoli’s case I have a solid degree of confidence they’ll make it long term. Keep reading to find out why

Yoli Blast Caps – What’s with the hype?

Like with any other review, we will start with the most crucial one, the product, as it is the best place to recognize a scam. Every MLM must be fixed in a product of real consumer value or the chance will crash sooner or later. Yoli’s Blast Caps product line reminds me of a lot of Agel’s suspension gel product line. Even though the products are very different the selling points are a lot similar. Both companies were the first of their kind in their respective markets as well..

The Blast Cap concept is so easy you will be surprised as to why it took so long for somebody to think of it. Basically what you have is a nutritional powder packed in the shape of a cap that is screwed onto re-usable bottles. Screw the Blast Cap on, push down to release the powder, shake and drink.

By using their distinctive Blast Cap delivery approach, Yoli is able to gain a whole host of product benefits giving them an edge on the competition:

1. Reduces wasted plastic – good for the environment
2. Lessens shipping charge – good for keeping fee/pricing at a minimum and good for the environment
3. Maintains maximum nutritional potency – by eliminating the pasteurization and bottling process that kill the vast majority of nutritional value in functional beverage drinks
4. Eradication of preservatives, fillers and chemicals essential in bottled beverages

The company has an entire host of marketing angles due to the uniqueness of the Yoli Blast Cap idea. I’d have to say their marketing materials & website (with the exclusion of a few cheesy videos) do a great job of cashing in on the advantages essential with their product line.

As a whole I am impressed with what Yoli has brought to the table. They an innovative concept, which gives them a strong advantage in a very big and budding industry. I’m not going to be surprised if they are on their way to become a long term company in the marketplace.

Yoli Hybrid MLM Pay Plan

The Yoli comp plan is not as earth shattering as they make it to be, but it is solid. The hybrid concept of combining a binary with uni-level by adding matching bonuses has been done many times. The difference is in how many ranks they have and by advancing these ranks they will potentially pay matching bonuses down 10 levels. This is the first time I’ve heard a company pay matching bonuses down this far, not to say it hasn’t been done, it’s just this is the first time I’ve seen one.

I like this MLM compensation plan. It utilizes the binary which can build synergy, momentum and team building. It also minimizes binary free-loading through their carefully structured rank advancement levels. The most important part of the MLM pay plan is it only gives commissions on the movement of product.

There is another more subtle aspect that can’t be ignored. Yoli can keep their product prices reasonable without cutting into distributor commissions because it cuts out so much excess in the production process. This is something heavily touted in one of the company’s videos titled “Competitive Price Points” and I don’t want to sound like I’m echoing their own marketing material but they are 100% right on this point.

Yoli’s Company and Leadership…

As a startup company, there is not much track record to look at. It only makes sense then to look at the history and experience of the people behind the company. Yoli was started by 6 persons who have verifiably and very remarkable track records. Corey Citron, who, is considered a god in multi-level Marketing, is their CMO. Corey looks to lead the company from the viewpoint of having been in and knowing the needs of the field, along with the rest of the founders..

This “by distributors, for distributors” motto is significant, it means that they are committed to the network marketing business model. It’s very easy for corporate officers to get envious when top distributors begin earning more than they do, let’s keep our fingers crossed that the people behind Yoli don’t forget what it’s like to be on the other side.

There are a lot of networking companies that boast of having the finest comp plan

There are quite a lot of networking companies that claim of having a great product

There are only a handful multi-level Marketing companies that sell moderately priced products

There are barely any that deliver on all 3.

If I wasn’t already committed elsewhere, Yoli is one of the few startups that I would consider joining myself. I would gave Yoli all 5 stars if I was to give out a rating. But it boils down to the fact that, you must be convinced 100% yourself, your friends and associates are not going to care what I think. As good of a multilevel marketing opportunity as I think Yoli is, it won’t be a piece of cake. If you choose to join the company, dedicate a year of your time or don’t join at all.

Polyurethane Foam Roofing

Every house needs a sturdy roof. It protects people from all kinds of weather conditions. It keeps unwanted things out of the house. A good roof on your head means you have a shelter above you. When constructing a house, it is important to choose the best material for the roofing. You would want the roof to be strong and well insulated. The desired roofing material available in the market ranges from brick and cement, roof tiles and roof marble to wood, stone and metal. The newest addition to this list is the polyurethane foam.

We all know that modern science has put a great impact on our lives. It has changed the way we go about our routine much to our benefit. Its new inventions are a source of comfort and usefulness for all. Polyurethane is also one of the greatest innovations of modern science. It is an organic molecule which exists in the form of a polymer. Its structure is highly flexible and hydrophobic (water resistant). It is used in making foam seats, insulation panels, surface coatings and hard plastic parts. Polyurethane is chemically inert which means it does not react with any chemicals. All these characteristics make polyurethane an ideal substance for roofing purposes.

Atmospherically speaking, traditional roofing is not adequate enough to handle the rough situations we face today anymore. With the development in the architecture industry, new and improved options to create a strengthened and well equipped roof are emerging. Polyurethane foam roofing is a good choice to consider. It acts as an insulator and looks sophisticated. Polyurethane roofs are bright, smooth and flawless. They will make your house look more elegant and colorful.

The major benefit of using polyurethane foam in roofing is that it is a thermal insulator and is highly water resistant. The main problem people used to face with traditional roofing was that it allowed heat to enter in the house. Also, after a heavy downpour, the roofs used to leak. Polyurethane foam does not let any heat to pass through which keeps the house much cooler in summers and well heated in the winters. It also does not let any water to seep through it, keeping the inside ceiling of the house dry. Polyurethane foam keeps heating and cooling costs at a minimum.

Polyurethane foam used in roofs in lighter in weight as compared to roofing tiles, marble or wood. Furthermore, it is an elastic and flexible material which can withstand more than normal expansion and contraction without being deformed. This also renders the foam to be quite versatile in application. It can be bent, shaped and used over all kinds of roofs.

Tiles and marble may crack if exposed to severe weather conditions. Wood panels may also start disintegrating since they absorb the water and swell. Pests might also attack the wood, making holes in it. Under such circumstances, polyurethane is a better choice. It is not susceptible to any pest attack and can bear extreme weathers easily. Although it may seem a little expensive, polyurethane foam roofing turns out to be very cost effective in the long run.

How You Can Do the Garbage Bag Airflow Test

Nothing beats the coziness of your own home especially during those cold, winter nights. But when you’re freezing in it despite having a furnace then there’s a problem. A good way to check if poor air flow is the concern is to use the garbage bag airflow test.

One of the most common issues with heating and cooling equipment is poor air flow. This problem makes your heating and cooling equipment work like inefficient outdated models and this can waste a lot of your money. The two most common reasons for poor air flow: inadequate duct sizing and a dirty return air filter.

Inadequate Duct Sizing Inadequate duct sizing is usually the result of a poor installation by a contractor who might possibly not have the qualifications to perform proper sizing. This is a very common problem that a homeowner may battle for years to come and could cost thousands of dollars over the life of the equipment. It is extremely crucial that you get references before choosing a contractor.

A Dirty Return Air Filter A dirty return air filter is the easiest problem to fix. Simply change your return air conditioning filter more frequently or utilize a filter that does not restrict air flow. This simple change can lead to huge savings. How You Can Perform the Garbage Bag Air flow Test

Garbage bag airflow test is one of the easiest and cheapest methods to determine the air flow of your furnace registers, bathroom exhaust fan or clothes dryer exhaust. It’s a vital test to pinpoint the reason why your furnace isn’t providing sufficient warm air in your room. This is also important in order to determine whether your newly purchased exhaust is working at its best. The same goes when you’re having major renovations in your home that call for a change in your heating or cooling systems. It’s the cheapest way to check your furnace register and exhaust fans performance as it only requires a garbage bag. This test isn’t a precise measurement of the airflow but it is better than not conducting any test at all.

Here’s how to do the garbage bag airflow test:

1. Secure the mouth of the garbage bag using a tape right into a bent coat hanger or to a cardboard in order to keep it open.

2. Be sure to deflate the bag by crushing it flat.

3. Position the open part of the bag (mouth) over the furnace register or exhaust hood.

4. Using a stopwatch or any gadget track the number of seconds it takes for the bag to fully inflate.

If you’re using a small garbage bag that measures 66 x 91 cm, you should use the information below to determine the airflow:

Inflation time = Airflow

*2 seconds = 35L/s (75 cfm)

*4 seconds = 20 L/s (40 cfm)

*10 seconds = 10 L/s (20 cfm)

However, if you’re using a bigger garbage bag that measures 79 x 119 cm, use this data:

Inflation time = Airlfow

*2 seconds = 100 L/s (210 cfm)

*4 seconds = 50 L/s (105 cfm)

Choosing a Roofing Contractor in Mesa

Throughout this spring and early summer, there has been a huge rash of damaging storms and tornadoes throughout the country, and the need for a quality Mesa roofing contractor to do repairs is greater than ever. More people than ever have experienced damage to their homes that now needs to be repaired.

Choosing a contractor that will be honest and reliable is a daunting task. Here are some important points to consider when choosing a contractor to repair your roof.

Ask your family, friends and neighbors for a recommendation

If your area has been hit by a storm, there are probably many other people in your neighborhood who are having repairs done on their homes. Talk to your neighbors and find out who has had a good experience with the Mesa roofing contractor that they used and who may have had a not-so-good experience with their contractor. There are always unique cases, so talk to several people and get more than one opinion on the contractor you’re considering.

Always be sure that your roofing contractor is bonded and insured

According to the Better Business Bureau, if a contractor is bonded, your losses are covered. If the contractor were to leave your job unfinished, you can make a claim on the contractor’s bond and get your money back. The purpose of insurance is to cover liability that may arise on the job. If your Mesa roofing contractor is insured and falls off your roof during the job, his insurance will cover the liability. If the contractor is not insured, you would be liable for an accident that might occur while the work is being done on your home. This could result in you making a claim on your homeowners insurance or paying out of pocket to cover the accident and its repercussions.

You should also get several estimates for roofing

If you get three estimates and one is significantly higher or lower than the others, that should raise a red flag. Consider why one might be so much more or less than the othersare they planning to do the job thoroughly and appropriately? Are they able to give a very low bid because they are going to do a shoddy job?

Be sure to always ask your roofing contractor if they will remove the old shingles, or just lay new shingles on top of them.

You want a contractor to remove the old shingles so that you will know if there is a problem underneath that needs to be repaired.

Do You Know What to do About Your Roof Problems

How long a roof will last is dependent on several controllable factors. The lifespan of a house-top can be extended or reduced depending on the way it is maintained by the homeowner; however, it is a fact that no matter how well it is cared for, at some point the material will deteriorate and risk structure failure. Common signs of structural roof problems include: the presence of granulation; broken shingles; and slipping or cracked shingles. All of this if not detected at an early stage could allow water to penetrate the structure and cause severe damage and premature failure of the entire roof. This top covering of the house is very susceptible to leaking; therefore, homeowners should always practice preventive maintenance and prevent any leaks from starting.

Inspections

Any damage to the integrity of the structure itself can cause susceptibility to water leakage and decay. It is vital to thoroughly inspect the house-top before any major damage occurs. Start the inspection by first checking the interior ceilings for signs of water penetration; this may come in the form of a coffee-colored stain on the ceiling or surrounding walls. Continue the inspection outside by going onto the house-top to check for any indication of structural damage. Look for missing, cracked or loose shingles, granulation, and debris accumulation.

Repairs

After conducting a thorough assessment of this top part of the house and discovering there is a problem with the structure that may require repairs, a homeowner needs to make a decision about the next step. It must be decided if an expert from a roof company is needed to perform the job or if they can make the repairs on their own. It is fairly easy for a homeowner to make minor repairs provided they have adequate knowledge regarding how to perform any required repairs.

Water Leakage

Once water staining has been observed, a leak should be suspected. The first action homeowners should take is to locate the point of water penetration. After locating this spot, a nail should be hammered into the area of the leak. The homeowner should then go outside to look for the area on the roof that needs to be repaired. If the seepage has been caused by loose flashing around a chimney or vent, all that needs to happen is to tighten the flashing with rust-resistant screws. If the cause of the leak is due to damaged shingles, the damaged shingle must be removed and replaced with a new one, ensuring that the replacement tab is larger than the damaged tab. The homeowner must remember to put roofing cement over all nail heads to secure a tight seal.

Cleaning

Sometimes a problem may be caused by the accumulation of debris on the roof or because of an algae infestation. Dark staining on the roof caused by algae can be removed simply by making a bleach solution and spraying it onto the affected area. The solution needs to soak on the area where it has been applied for 15 to 30 minutes before using a soft bristle brush to scrub off the wet section of the roof. Then, the area should be thoroughly rinsed with clear water. Remove pine needles, leaves and twigs from any area that might cause water to back up. Be sure that down-spouts are properly working.

An excellent supplier provides property owners with a resilient and strong choice of materials. If tiles are to your liking, then find a supplier with long-lasting protection in order to create better bang for your buck allocated to the renovation. Check to see the types of materials yourself if you need to. Usually the more pricey ones possess a better grip on the outer surface and handle the fluctuating weather with a lot of grit.

Another important feature may be the ever-so-capturing appearance with the tiles. Before agreeing to change of the overall look, make sure that the hues and texture don’t collide.
